Still Life Photography : High End Jewellery Shoot

I was recently commissioned to shoot some bespoke jewellery pieces by a small bespoke jewellery boutique. I don’t often shoot still life in the studio, however it was good to get back to my roots ( I started out assisting a still life photographer) and the jewellery looked amazing. It wasn’t just women’s jewellery it also included some stunning gentleman’s cufflinks, umbrella’s and shaving brushes. These pieces are all one off’s & commissioned pieces and the workmanship is simply breathtaking! A few hero shots & a few cut out’s on white with a reflection complemented the pieces perfectly…

Reportage shoot at media agency

I was commissioned a little while ago to shoot some reportage images for an agency for their marketing materials & annual report. The brief was just to show people being naturally themselves, at work and give a behind the scenes look of them working. It was a fun shoot and I love being given the freedom to roam and capture people being themselves. I think having that behind the scenes look & feel makes a refreshing change from the usual formal approach to the visual identity of a company.

Polly Cupcake : New Work & Behind the Scenes video

This image is part of a series of images for theatre & circus performer Polly Cupcake. It was such a fun shoot to do with the amazing set styling by Scarlet Winter (which I think was largely items from her home) and beautiful make up by Julia Jeckell. Retouching was by the talented Kieran of Response London. Thanks to everyone involved in the shoot which was a long days shooting but everyone worked amazingly hard and we came up with some stunning images.

If anyone is mildly interested in a lighting diagram then I will gladly draw one but there are actually five lights lighting everything to provide the old renaissance style of lighting I was hoping to achieve… see if you can guess where they are.

Annual Report Shoot – Corporate Photography

Annuals reports are a key part of a companies brand identity to the shareholders & general public and having great images helps to solidify those relationships. Design agencies don’t take these responsibilities lightly and it is always a thrill to be commissioned to shoot images for an annual report.

These are often high pressure shooting situations and this commission was no exception. The various leaders of this blue chip company are only together once or twice a year and have a very busy schedule of meetings on those occasions. You only have one window of opportunity, in this case under twenty minutes and you have to cover three or four setups to cover the brief. Having a good team is essential in these situations and I am very honoured to work with some great assistants. These multiple location lighting setups were all ready to go, so when we had those precious few minutes between board meetings we were able to move fluidly between them, get the shots for the brief and most importantly keep the subjects happy and comfortable, as I’m sure they have more important matters on their minds. Here are a few of the shots:

Events at The Ivy, Annabel’s & Soho House

Photographing events is always fun and gives you access to places you wouldn’t normally be allowed. In this case The Ivy Club, Annabel’s in Berkeley Square and Soho House. Fantastic venues. First was a Champagne masterclass with a Moet Hennesey Champagne Expert at Annabel’s. Then a classy DJ night at Soho house. Then I was so excited to photograph a Sushi masterclass at The Ivy. Wentworth Golf Club – Interiors

Wentworth golf club have just refurbished one of the lounges in the Tennis & Health Centre, so as I was there shooting for their club magazine, they asked me to photograph the new room. Shot a few wide shots of the room and then a few lifestyle type images.

The Cheerful Soul Restaurant Opening

I was there covering the PR photography for the opening party for the cheerful soul restaurant at the hare & hounds in Marlow on Saturday. Michelle & Russell where the winners of the BBC series ‘the restaurant’ and they are now up and running! Raymond Blanc is their mentor and he was there in fine form. Raymond has terrific energy and was a joy to work with and photograph. The food was fantastic and I’m going to enjoy going back there for a full meal as the canapés were heavenly. The restaurant has a lovely feel about it, with lovely decor which I enjoyed taking pictures of. All those little details…

Magdalen College Ball, Oxford

I covered this event with my friend Rob from theballphotographers and we had a great time. I enjoy covering these events as the students are lovely to deal with and even though taking the formal ball photographs can be a bit of a conveyor belt process, we still had a laugh and got some great shots. I also feel photographing the balls at Oxford is a privilege and allows an insight into a world that has great tradition and history. The buildings and architecture are amazing both inside and out giving you great backdrops to shoot with. We set up near the rear gates for the formal portraits and with a few studio lights we had a setup that saw us through the night. Here are a few favourites, a mixture of formal and reportage images:
