Great Food, Amazing Drinks : London Cocktail Club Opening

April already! So this is my first blog post of 2011… A great start to the year was shooting the opening of the London Cocktail Club in the West End. I didn’t want to help spread the word about this fantastic cocktail bar, not because it wasn’t worth blogging about, but rather I wanted to keep it a secret all to myself! The cocktails are second to none, and combined with a underground feel makes it extra special. The service from the bar staff is amazing and it is great to see people take a real pride in their work. I have been there a couple of times since just to sample a really good ‘Old Fashioned’ & a couple of ‘Long Island Iced Tea’ cocktails..

This was the official opening night of the bar, after winning BBC Two’s series ‘The Restaurant’, James & JJ hosted a great evening for the press & VIPs. Raymond Blanc was in full stride, entertaining & welcoming. Always a pleasure working with Raymond, his energy and ‘Joie de vivre’ is infectious and the only problem photographing him is that he doesn’t stay still! Events at The Ivy, Annabel’s & Soho House

Photographing events is always fun and gives you access to places you wouldn’t normally be allowed. In this case The Ivy Club, Annabel’s in Berkeley Square and Soho House. Fantastic venues. First was a Champagne masterclass with a Moet Hennesey Champagne Expert at Annabel’s. Then a classy DJ night at Soho house. Then I was so excited to photograph a Sushi masterclass at The Ivy. Magdalen College Ball, Oxford

I covered this event with my friend Rob from theballphotographers and we had a great time. I enjoy covering these events as the students are lovely to deal with and even though taking the formal ball photographs can be a bit of a conveyor belt process, we still had a laugh and got some great shots. I also feel photographing the balls at Oxford is a privilege and allows an insight into a world that has great tradition and history. The buildings and architecture are amazing both inside and out giving you great backdrops to shoot with. We set up near the rear gates for the formal portraits and with a few studio lights we had a setup that saw us through the night. Here are a few favourites, a mixture of formal and reportage images:

Well no exactly my most recent work but finally got round to putting up the tearsheet of the job I shot for them for their christmas lunch. A lovely family event with some great shots of everyone enjoying themselves.
